IHH’s unit appeals Tokyo court's rejection of Daiichi Sankyo damages claim

On September 24, Malaysia's IHH Healthcare announced that its subsidiary, Northern TK Venture (NTK), has appealed a Tokyo court's rejection of its damages claim against Daiichi Sankyo. The court dismissed NTK's claims on September 10, ruling that IHH's unit would be responsible for the litigation costs. In May 2025, NTK had filed a petition to revise damages from Daiichi Sankyo to up to 109.3 billion rupees (US$1.14 billion).

NTK claims that it suffered losses due to delays in obtaining acquisition approvals, which were a result of a dispute between Daiichi Sankyo and "certain judgment debtors, to which IHH was not a party". IHH, a global private healthcare group, had acquired a 31% stake in Fortis through NTK, but later suspended its offer to buy an additional 26% after the Japanese company filed a contempt plea against the Indian company's founders.

IHH aims to increase its stake in Fortis to 51% over the next three to five years and intends to further integrate its Fortis and Gleneagles platforms.
