Heavy rain, storms in Andhra and Odisha, trigger warning, sea bathing banned

Heavy rainfall and storms have swept through Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, prompting authorities to issue warnings and restrictions. The India Meteorological Department reported that a deep depression, initially over north Andhra Pradesh, crossed the coast near Kalingapatnam on September 23 and 24, 2026. The system brought maximum sustained winds of up to 75 km per hour and continued to move west-northwestwards at a speed of 3 km per hour.

Odisha has also issued a heavy rain alert for Puri, where tourists are advised to avoid sea bathing due to safety concerns. Lifeguards are on duty at various beach locations. The deep depression is expected to weaken gradually over the next 24 hours before transitioning into a well-marked low-pressure area by Saturday.
