Gremlins 3 Delayed to 2028 by Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. has pushed back the release of Gremlins 3, extending its debut from November 19, 2027, to October 6, 2028. The decision comes after the film's reveal by Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav in 2025. The legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg is set to return as an executive producer, joined by Eleanor Columbus of Maiden Voyage Productions.

Chris Columbus, who helmed the first two Harry Potter movies, will take on production and direction duties for Gremlins 3. Screenwriter Hannah Marks is crafting the script based on an original draft penned by Chris Columbus, Zach Lipovsky, and Adam Stein.

The film's screenplay is being developed by Kristie Macosko Krieger and Holly Bario under Amblin Entertainment, alongside producers Michael Barnathan and Mark Radcliffe of 26th Street Pictures. As of now, Warner Bros. has not officially announced the movie's title, plot details, or cast members.

Gremlins 3 marks the franchise's return after a 33-year hiatus following the 1990 sequel, Gremlins 2: The New Batch. The original Gremlins, directed by Joe Dante, starred a young Billy as he discovers a mysterious creature called a Mogwai. The Mogwai comes with two crucial rules: it must never be exposed to water and must never be fed after midnight. Breaking these rules leads to the creature multiplying and transforming into mischievous gremlins that wreak havoc during the holiday season.

Joe Dante's 1984 film was a box-office hit, earning $212 million worldwide on a $11 million budget. Its blend of horror and comedy contributed to the creation of the PG-13 rating. While the 1990 sequel underperformed commercially, grossing around $41 million, the franchise remains a recognizable property with a dedicated fanbase. Warner Bros. views the new film as an opportunity to introduce Gremlins to a fresh generation of audiences.
