Greater Noida Bus Fire: Driver-Conductor Laughed After Passengers Raised Alert, Both Kept Smoking & Told Them 'Marna Hai Toh Maro'

On September 24, 2026, a tragic bus fire in Greater Noida left nine passengers dead and several others injured. According to a passenger named Sunil Kumar, the incident occurred around midnight on the Yamuna Expressway while the sleeper bus was en route from Greater Noida to Agra. The bus was carrying around 35 passengers.

Around 11:30 pm, passengers noticed a strong burning smell emanating from the driver's cabin. They alerted the driver and conductor, urging them to inspect the bus. However, the driver allegedly dismissed their concerns, stating that such a smell was common. Despite the warnings, the bus was not stopped for inspection.

Shortly after, flames broke out near the driver's seat. Alarm bells rang as passengers repeatedly requested the driver to halt the bus. Instead, the driver and conductor were said to have chuckled, telling the passengers, "Marna hai toh maro, bus nahi rokenge" (If you want to die, then die, we will not stop the bus). The fire quickly spread, filling the passenger compartment with thick smoke.

Kumar and several other passengers managed to escape by jumping out of the bus as it came to a stop. However, some passengers were trapped inside due to the intense fire and smoke. Upon reaching Kailash Hospital in Jewar, doctors pronounced nine passengers dead, while others are receiving treatment. The police have arrested the driver and cleaner in connection with the incident, investigating allegations of negligence and failing to respond promptly to the passengers' concerns.
