Google Vids Adds Free AI Video: What You Get and What’s Limited

Google Vids now enables personal Google account holders to generate AI video clips for free, using Google's Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash model. This move is aimed at facilitating content creation for those without professional editing skills or substantial budgets. The free tier, however, comes with limitations - users are restricted to six AI video or avatar generations per month.

The feature allows for scene extension, clip duration setting, and 1080p video generation. Users can access these options by visiting vids.new on a desktop and clicking the "Create AI videos" option. The generated clips include an imperceptible SynthID watermark to help identify AI-generated content.

The monthly generation limit of six clips is a significant constraint for users planning to produce AI-generated content regularly. The feature can be used to create promotional assets or event announcements from product photos, eliminating the need for hiring outside animators.

Google is also planning to integrate Gemini 3.8 Flash-Lite text-to-speech into Vids, allowing users to convert written scripts into voiceovers in over 100 languages. This feature could enable users to generate both video and narration from a single tool, reducing the need for audio recording or multiple applications.
