GAME OF THE WEEK: Tamaqua looks for statement win over Blue Mountain

As the halfway point of the 2026 high school football season approaches, the stage is set for an important Week 5 matchup in the Schuylkill League. Blue Mountain Eagles, currently holding a 3-1 record, will face off against 2-2 Blue Raiders in a crucial game for both teams.

Blue Mountain has demonstrated a dominant start to the season, with impressive performances against tough opponents. They have only faced one loss, a 45-36 defeat to Southern Lehigh. In contrast, Blue Raiders have struggled, losing a recent game 32-30 against Executive Education.

Tamaqua's success this season has been built on a strong rushing attack, averaging 261 yards per game. They have notched five rushing touchdowns already. Junior running back Terrence McDowell has been a key player, though he missed the last game. However, star quarterback Ace Schickram stepped up, contributing 162 rushing yards and a touchdown on 23 carries. McDowell is expected to return, reuniting with Schickram in the backfield.

Blue Mountain's offense has been equally impressive, averaging 44.5 points and 419.3 yards per game. Junior quarterback Cohen Kirby has shown promise, with a high completion rate and strong passing stats. Running backs Brody Foose and Sonny Amato have also made significant contributions, with Foose leading with 436 yards and six touchdowns.

Despite their impressive offense, Blue Mountain's defense has shown room for improvement. They have allowed big plays at times, as evidenced by a recent game where they conceded nearly 200 yards on the ground. Nonetheless, the defense is led by talented players, including linebackers Foose and Amato, and defensive linemen Ryan Clemas and Vaughn Helverson.
