Fubara approves 50% overhead hike for Rivers judiciary

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has approved a 50% increase in the overhead expenditure for the state judiciary, following the passage of the 2026 budget. The additional funds aim to cover daily expenses, improve the welfare of judicial officers and staff, and support personnel training, ensuring judges and magistrates can continue working comfortably, dignified, and with peace of mind.

During the Special Court Session marking the start of the 2026/2027 Legal Year at the Ceremonial Court Hall in Port Harcourt, Fubara emphasized the judiciary's role in maintaining peace, stability, and socio-economic development through justice administration. He commended the Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Chibuzor Amadi, and the entire judiciary for their efforts in sustaining the independence, integrity, and dignity of the judicial system.

Despite challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, heavy caseloads, delays in justice administration, and manpower issues, Fubara assured that his administration would continue to respect the judiciary's constitutional autonomy and provide the necessary resources.
