Former soldier who shot at synagogue was suing military for $1M over vaccination policy

Sean Ward, a former infantry soldier, was shot and killed during a gun battle with police outside an Ontario synagogue. Court documents reveal that Ward had been suing the military for $1 million, claiming he had been discharged for refusing to receive the COVID-19 vaccine on religious grounds. The lawsuit stated that Ward had served honorably for almost five years before his dismissal, which had incurred him $140,000 in financial losses.

He was deemed "unsuitable for further military service" and discharged under category 5(f). The lawsuit also claimed that Ward suffered permanent psychological, physical, and emotional trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder, and a loss of trust in others as a result of his discharge. It is now believed that Ward was motivated by COVID-19 conspiracy theories and antisemitic beliefs, as he had shared such views while serving in the Canadian Armed Forces.
