Fifteen families remain displaced as authorities assess safety of Damai Perdana Flats

Fifteen families from Block D of Damai Perdana Flats in Cheras continue to reside at a temporary relief centre while authorities await a structural safety assessment regarding a slope collapse near the building. The cause of the incident remains under investigation. Tan Kah Hoe, a Kajang Municipal Council councillor for Zone 6, informed that the Public Works Department's Forensic Unit inspected the site yesterday to evaluate the building's structural condition.

Currently, there is no decision on the incident's cause, and authorities are awaiting the assessment report to determine the building's safety for occupation. As of yesterday, the number of families staying at the relief centre had risen to 15 from four. All affected families are residents of the block, and the Social Welfare Department is handling accommodation and meals for the residents.

Police are also present to maintain security in the area. The slope collapse occurred due to an embankment about 4.57 metres high. The Fire and Rescue Department found water still flowing at the site, but there were no casualties. The Minerals and Geoscience Department is investigating if a leaking pipe contributed to the collapse, while the structural safety assessment involves collaboration with other technical agencies.
