FG pushes unified master plans for regional development

The Federal Government has called upon regional development commissions to emulate the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) in creating unified master plans, according to Abubakar Momoh, Minister of Regional Development. This directive came during the NDDC's 2026 Partners for Sustainable Development Conference in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Momoh emphasized that each commission should derive its master plan and operational agenda from the NDDC's unified plan, aligning with the Ministry of Regional Development's mandate. The Federal Government is working towards harmonizing regional development initiatives nationwide through a new policy framework to facilitate coordinated and inclusive growth.

Momoh explained that having a common view of priorities, supported by reliable data, would help identify gaps, sequence interventions, and avoid concentrating projects in one area while neglecting others. He urged development commissions to prioritize strategic impact and align projects with the Renewal Hope agenda, creating opportunities for private sector and international investment in various sectors.

The NDDC board and management were commended for organizing the partnership and sustainable development conference, which Momoh deemed timely and necessary. The conference aimed to examine practices, challenge ineffective strategies, and strengthen collaboration among stakeholders.
