Festus Keyamo: In Service of Country and Party

Festus Keyamo (SAN), the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, is being tipped to assume a prominent role in President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 presidential campaign. Keyamo, a senior lawyer and politician, has a career built on advocacy, communication, and public service, spanning from pro-democracy activism to the courtroom and federal cabinet.

He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1993 and began his legal career at the chambers of the late Gani Fawehinmi, who was known for his radical human rights advocacy during the military rule of Nigeria. His early legal career involved high-profile cases defending various activists and political figures, which established the aggressive courtroom style, articulate communication, and willingness to confront opponents that would later define his political career.

In 2019, Keyamo joined President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election effort as the Director of Strategic Communications and official spokesperson for his presidential campaign. This role further reinforced his reputation as a campaign communicator capable of engaging with political opponents. In 2023, Tinubu appointed Keyamo as the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development.

As minister, Keyamo has pledged to prioritize transparency and studied the existing aviation roadmap, promising to build upon it rather than discard it. Despite his ministerial responsibilities, Keyamo has remained one of the administration’s most recognizable political voices, using his public interventions to challenge perceptions and defend the government against criticism.

Keyamo’s possible addition to the 2027 APC presidential campaign council would bring another layer of political experience to an already established communications team, making his voice a familiar one to expect once again in another campaign.
