Ex-servicemen, widows in Telangana to get higher welfare grants, new assistance schemes approved

The State Managing Committee of the Armed Forces Flag Day Fund in Telangana has approved higher financial assistance for ex-servicemen, widows, and their dependents. The decisions were made during a meeting chaired by Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on September 24. Several key changes were implemented, including an increase in the education grant for ex-servicemen's children from Class 1 to degree level from ₹10,000 to ₹17,000.

Additionally, the monthly financial assistance for 100% disabled ex-servicemen was raised from ₹15,000 to ₹18,000. The grant for special children with special needs also received a boost, with the amount for those under 15 years increased from ₹6,000 to ₹8,000 and for those above 15 years raised from ₹9,000 to ₹10,000. The marriage grant for daughters of ex-servicemen was enhanced from ₹50,000 to ₹75,000.

New welfare measures were also approved, such as mobility assistance for ex-servicemen unable to walk, who can now receive reimbursement for 50% of the cost of a three-wheeler motorised vehicle or wheelchair. Furthermore, a new scheme for children of ex-servicemen with special needs studying in recognised special schools was approved, offering 50% reimbursement of school fees.

The Governor emphasized the need for simplified documentation procedures and direct bank transfers of assistance, along with extensive awareness campaigns to inform eligible beneficiaries about the available welfare schemes.
