Denmark’s new work visa could open jobs for Indians: Who qualifies and what’s the ₹47 lakh salary threshold?

Denmark plans to introduce a new work permit system for Indian workers starting from January 1, 2027. This initiative, known as the Collective Agreement-Based Business Scheme, will allow Danish employers in 16 selected countries, including India, to hire workers for specific roles. The eligibility for Indian nationals stems from Denmark's need for skilled labor in various sectors.

However, this new route is not an open invitation for Indians to move to Denmark without a job offer. Employers must have a Danish company that is part of a relevant collective agreement, has been in operation for at least two years, and employs a minimum of 10 full-time workers. The job must also be full-time and fall under the relevant collective agreement, with the salary meeting the minimum threshold set by the scheme.

The minimum salary under this new work route is DKK 322,000 per year, which is approximately ₹47 lakh annually, subject to exchange rate fluctuations. This salary threshold is lower than some other common employment routes in Denmark. To be eligible for this work permit, Indian workers must secure a job offer from a Danish company that adheres to the scheme's conditions.
