Cop martyred, 3 injured as terrorists open fire on raiding CTD party near Peshawar

PESHAWAR experienced a tragic incident on Thursday, when a police officer was killed and three others were injured during an exchange of fire with terrorists, according to police. The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) had received information about terrorists being present in the Garhi Sherdad area, near Warsak Road, prompting them to plan an operation.

Upon reaching the area, the terrorists began firing at the CTD team, resulting in one officer being killed and three injured. Authorities claimed that a major terrorist plot had been thwarted, citing credible intelligence about the presence of three potential suicide bombers. Video footage showed a terrorist scaling a wall to infiltrate a third house.

The funeral for the martyred officer, Afaaq Khan, was held at Peshawar’s police headquarters, with KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, cabinet members, and other officials in attendance. KP Governor Kundi condemned the incident, expressing condolences to the officer’s family and praising the bravery of those who risk their lives to ensure public safety.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) has seen a rise in terrorist activity recently, leading to intensified counterterrorism operations. Earlier this month, five terrorists were killed in an exchange of fire with CTD in Shamshatoo, including a key commander of the banned ISKP. This followed a week earlier, when four terrorists, including a militant commander and Afghan national, were killed in an encounter in Peshawar’s Badhber area.
