Colts news: Darius Slayton reveals a fascinating truth about Daniel Jones

The Indianapolis Colts have started their 2026 regular season on a disappointing note, currently sitting at 0-2 after two games and facing the threat of losing key players to injuries. However, there is a silver lining as quarterback Daniel Jones is reuniting with receiver Darius Slayton, a familiar face from their time together with the New York Giants.

Slayton, who played alongside Jones for six years from 2019-24, shared his insights about Jones during a recent press conference, highlighting the quarterback's respect and likability. "I think people have an outside perception but I don’t know that you can find a person that’s played with him that way that wouldn’t tell you they’ve got a lot of respect for him and enjoy him as a person," Slayton said. "He’s a good leader, gets along with guys, I think he inspires guys pretty well."

Slayton emphasized that while Jones may appear one-dimensional on the surface, he possesses a strong, inner fire that becomes evident when working with him. "I know every time he comes up here he’s pretty, you know, one page but there’s fire in there, deep down inside that comes out," Slayton added. "And we get to see that so that it definitely gives you a different perspective on him as a person."

Jones' leadership within the team is clearly valued, despite the lingering effects of his Achilles injury from last season. The Colts will get another opportunity to witness Jones' impact as they prepare for their home game against the Texans on September 27 at Lucas Oil Stadium, kicking off at 1 p.m. ET.
