Colombia Welcomed More Than 20,000 Nordic Travelers in 2025

In 2025, Colombia welcomed over 20,000 Nordic travelers, a significant increase from just 5,452 in 2020. This growth, driven by the collapse of international travel during the pandemic and its subsequent recovery, reflects the rising appeal of Colombia's warmer destinations like San Andres and Cartagena to Nordic travelers. The surge in arrivals, nearly four times the 2020 figure, shows a 269% increase between 2020 and 2025.

Sweden was the largest source of Nordic visitors, with Bogota, Cartagena, and Medellin receiving the highest numbers of arrivals. December was among the strongest months for the market.

The visitors spent an average of US$320 per card in 2025, with San Andres leading in spending at US$506 per traveler, followed by Cartagena at US$250, Medellin at US$214, Bogota at US$206, and Santa Marta at US$177. The spending was highest in Bogota due to its role as a major entry point and business center. Travel agencies recorded the highest average expenditure by category at US$446 per card, with accommodation at US$374, and airlines at US$267.

Nordic travelers' trips to Colombia are often longer, lasting eight to 14 nights, and combining urban centers, nature, and Caribbean destinations. Nature-based tourism, including hiking, birdwatching, visits to coffee-growing regions, thermal destinations, and wellness experiences, is a key part of the market's appeal. The growing trend of such trips suggests that Colombia could capitalize on the market's appeal for nature-based tourism and longer stays.

However, the lack of direct flights from the Nordic countries remains a limitation, with Amsterdam being the most frequently recorded connection point.
