COCOBOD engages international trading partners ahead of 2026/27 cocoa season

COCOBOD, Ghana's cocoa marketing body, convened a strategic meeting with major international cocoa trading and processing companies in London. The gathering, led by GCMC UK, aimed to prepare Ghana for the 2026/27 cocoa season. Dr. Ransford Abbey, COCOBOD's CEO, and Ato Boateng, Deputy in charge of Finance & Administration, engaged with representatives of leading international players, who have long-standing relationships with Ghana's cocoa sector.

The discussions centered on Ghana's recently enacted Cocoa Board Act, 2026 (Act 1182), the proposed cocoa sector financing framework, preparations for the upcoming season, and other operational matters. Key areas of focus included a proposed commercial paper and bond financing programme, season liquidity arrangements, the role of private-sector financing for Licensed Buying Companies (LBCs), EUDR implementation readiness, and potential avenues to strengthen collaboration between COCOBOD and its trading partners.

The meeting fostered open, constructive, and forward-looking dialogues. Participants welcomed the chance to engage directly with COCOBOD leadership and exchange insights on enhancing Ghana's cocoa sector and ensuring a robust start to the new season. COCOBOD reiterated its dedication to transparency, stakeholder engagement, and continuous collaboration with its trading partners as they navigate the evolving financing framework.
