CDA Approves 4 Double-Decker Buses for Islamabad Tourism

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) board recently approved the purchase of four double-decker buses to boost tourism in Islamabad, in addition to advancing plans for a major zipline in the Margalla Hills. During a meeting chaired by CDA Chairman Sohail Ashraf, the board approved the bus procurement proposal, stating that the vehicles will aid tourism activities and offer visitors alternative ways to explore the capital city.

The board also took up the discussion on engaging a consultant to evaluate the feasibility and prepare engineering designs for the proposed "world’s longest" zipline in the Margalla Hills.

Furthermore, the board reviewed the long-overdue revision of Islamabad's master plan and directed the relevant department to conduct further research on procedures and parameters for the proposed changes. The original master plan, created by Doxiadis Associates in 1960, had advocated for revisions every 20 years, yet authorities have failed to finalize a comprehensive revision.

This delay has posed challenges in urban planning, considering Islamabad's growing population and built-up areas, along with the expansion of housing schemes and informal settlements.

In another development, the board deliberated on tax and duty exemptions for imported goods for the new convention center and authorized consultancy services to revamp and rehabilitate Faisal Mosque. Various other development-related items were also discussed during the board meeting.
