Beyond the crown: Miss International Queens reflect on family, survival, and growth

Miss International Queen 2026 crowned transgender contestants from around the world in Pattaya, Thailand. Theerachaya Pimkitidaj from Thailand took first runner-up, while Saki Iwai from Japan finished second runner-up. US contestant Lo Colby secured the crown. The three queens visited Khaosod English to discuss their experiences and reflections.

Lo Colby spoke of her connection with Thailand's warmth and its familial aspects, noting that she found a sense of belonging she'd never felt before. She expressed her hope to inspire others by showcasing the capabilities of trans women and trans people, emphasizing that they're deserving of equal opportunities. Colby also identified bridging American and Thai cultures as a challenge she sees, noting that while Thailand celebrates individuality, America often views the different as "the other."

Theerachaya Pimkitidaj's biggest challenge was overcoming mental health struggles, which she credits her transgender title for helping to address. She is most proud of her survival, having previously battled suicidal thoughts. Pimkitidaj also cherishes the international friendships she made during the competition, appreciating the diverse cultures and languages she experienced.

Saki Iwai faced anxiety in openly revealing her sexuality, but now feels empowered by her title to do so. She attributes her newfound confidence to the support she received from fellow contestants. Iwai is most proud of her growth and the impact she believes the competition can have on perceptions of transgender people in Japan and beyond.
