Avengers: Endgame Encore banned in Kuwait as re-release opens worldwide

The Avengers: Endgame Encore, a re-release of the blockbuster film, has been banned from Kuwaiti cinemas despite the original version having screened in the country with modifications. This decision was made by cinema chain Cinescape, which announced the cancellation of screenings after tickets had already gone on sale. The chain stated that they would issue full refunds for all bookings.

Vox Cinemas, another Kuwaiti cinema chain, also posted a similar message, apologizing for any disappointment and informing customers that they would receive refunds. The reason for the ban remains unclear, as no official statement has been provided. The ban coincides with the opening of Avengers: Endgame Encore in cinemas across the Middle East, including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, and Qatar.

The film is a special presentation that includes an exclusive preview of the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film, Doctor Doom. The ban comes in the wake of Kuwait's history of blocking major Hollywood releases due to perceived conflicts with local values and public order. In 2023, the Ministry of Information banned the films Barbie and Talk to Me, citing similar concerns.
