August reactivates Valenciaport’s import/export activity

In August, Valenciaport's import and export activities saw a revival, despite a decline in its role as a transshipment port. August data from the Valencia Port Authority (APV) reveals that 78,614 export containers were loaded at Valenciaport's docks, marking a 7.14% increase from the previous year. Import containers totaled 94,888 TEUs, an increase of 6.30%.

However, transit maritime traffic decreased by 10.78%, contributing to a 4.16% year-on-year drop in total handled containers to 467,089 TEUs. Since January, Valenciaport has processed a cumulative 3,746,208 TEUs, a 1.70% decrease, and handled 5,597,849 containers, 0.74% lower year-on-year. The port's facilities managed 6,397,007 tonnes of goods in August, a 1.33% increase compared to August 2025.

Cumulatively, from January to August, 52,647,748 tonnes were handled (-2.63%), and the year-to-date figure stands at 78,640,694 tonnes (-2.28%). Bulk cargo performance was noteworthy, with liquid bulk cargo up 6.14% to 2.65 million tonnes, and dry bulk cargo (1.6 million tonnes) growing by 1.61%. Non-containerized general cargo saw a 2.53% increase to 10.75 million tonnes.

Vehicle traffic also saw a boost, with 41,902 vehicles handled in August, a 36.73% increase from the previous year, totaling 367,237 vehicles (+13.14%) year-to-date. Rail traffic surged by 20.83% to 2.64 million tonnes between January and August. Passenger numbers reflected a different trend, with 265,698 passengers passing through in August, a 8.04% rise from 2025.

Regular line passengers increased by 9.16% to 154,021, while cruise passengers rose by 6.53% to 111,677. Year to date, regular line passenger traffic stands at 617,605 (+1.74%), while cruise passengers saw a 26.42% decrease to 393,697.
