Atiku’s US lobbyist to sue Tinubu, Fani-Kayode in $36m suit over alleged threats

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has lodged a complaint with the Federal High Court in Abuja regarding a lawsuit initiated by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) against President Bola Tinubu to disqualify him from the 2027 presidential election. The party argued that the order granting substituted service to the plaintiffs was unnecessary because Tinubu's legal team had already filed and served his defense before the order was issued.

In a letter dated September 22, 2026, the APC informed the court about the order, stating they only learned of it "through the media propaganda embarked on by the plaintiffs immediately after the order was made." The letter highlighted that the plaintiffs had not served any enrolled order on the APC yet. The suit, identified as Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/1888/2026, seeks to disqualify Tinubu and the APC from the 2027 presidential race based on a discrepancy between Atiku's National Youth Service Corps discharge certificate and the president's official name.
