At East Delhi SIR camp, some flagged for being twins, others have no clue about documents

Meera Mittal, a 73-year-old diabetic, faced a challenge at the Voter Registration Centre in East Delhi during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. She struggled with stairs lacking handrails, making her way to the office of the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) for her verification hearing difficult. Mittal was among the 97.5 lakh Delhiites who made it to the draft electoral roll published on August 31.

Around 33.1 lakh electors received notices to prove their eligibility to remain on the electoral roll. While some got notices due to "logical discrepancies" in their enumeration forms, others were flagged for reasons beyond their control, such as being twins. Lily Ojha, a 57-year-old woman, received notices because her twin daughters have an age gap of less than nine months, which the officials deemed a "logical discrepancy."
