Assembly of 5 or more people banned in Balochistan under Section 144 for 30 days

In Balochistan, the provincial government has banned the assembly of five or more individuals in public spaces for a 30-day period under Section 144, following reports of potential threats to public safety and order. Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure allows authorities to take urgent actions in cases of danger or nuisance.

The Home Department notified this decision on September 23, based on reports of activities and gatherings that could negatively impact public peace, tranquility, law, and order, as well as the safety and security of citizens.

The ban encompasses restrictions on displaying, carrying, possessing, or using any kind of weapons in public places, excluding exceptions authorized by law. Additionally, it prohibits the assembly or gathering of five or more people at any public venue, including sit-ins, processions, rallies, demonstrations, and similar events. The government also restricted the covering or concealing of faces in public areas, particularly through the use of mufflers, masks, or other means that obstruct or prevent identification.

These restrictions are set to remain in effect for 30 days, unless the competent authority decides to modify or extend them in accordance with the law. All relevant law enforcement agencies and district administrations have been instructed to enforce the order strictly and in line with legal provisions. Violations of the order will result in legal action being taken against those found to be in breach of the restrictions.
