Ask HPE and NVIDIA the AI data question you cannot ask in public

HPE and NVIDIA have invited AI infrastructure leaders to a private dinner in Washington to discuss critical questions about data sovereignty in regulated industries. The event, hosted by The Register, took place on Thursday, 29th October, with Thierry Pienaar, HPE Fellow and Chief Technology Officer for HPC and AI Worldwide Sales, and Bert Condensa, Vice President for Enterprise AI Factory Segment Sales, from NVIDIA, sitting at the table.

The dinner, held at Fiola Mare, focused on addressing the challenges of data storage, accessibility, and auditor acceptance. The discussion revolved around the delicate balance between data sovereignty and risk management, as the data that fuels AI systems also poses potential risks. The boundary of data usage often dictates the transition from pilot to production, and these decisions are often made in private conversations.

The event, which adheres to the Chatham House Rule, allowed participants to share their experiences and challenges without fear of retribution. The goal was to identify infrastructure options that maintain boundaries, their associated costs, capabilities, and elasticity, and whether these solutions remain viable during the move from planning to operational phases.

The limited number of places was allocated on an invitation-only basis, with government and public sector attendees able to cover their own expenses.
