Anwar - Li Qiang discuss keeping AI under human control at China expo

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Chinese Premier Li Qiang met at the Global Digital Trade Expo in Hangzhou, discussing the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) and the importance of maintaining human control over the technology. During their visit, they toured an exhibition showcasing emerging AI innovations.

Anwar expressed concern that AI should remain under human control, emphasizing that humans should not become controlled by the technology. Both leaders acknowledged the need for the world to collaborate, leveraging their strengths to seize new opportunities while ensuring technological advancements benefit all and contribute to shared progress.

Malaysia, serving as the expo's Country of Honour, unveiled a dedicated pavilion for the first time, organized by MATRADE. Earlier, Chinese AgiBot Innovation had mentioned potential plans to invest RM1 billion in Malaysia by 2035, creating 5,000 jobs, following talks with Anwar during his working visit to China.

The talks between Anwar and Chinese businesses, including ZTE Corporation, Alibaba Group, Geely Automobile Holdings, and Huawei Technologies, centered on investment prospects and collaboration in high-impact sectors, such as humanoid robotics, digital infrastructure, AI, electric vehicle technology, and e-commerce. ZTE subsequently announced RM170 million in investments to boost Malaysia's digital transformation, aiming to create additional quality employment opportunities for local talent.

Anwar reiterated his government's dedication to attracting high-quality investments and fostering local talent to generate skilled employment opportunities, contributing to economic prosperity.
