Alan Jones welcomed prominent athlete to luxury home with ‘hug and slap on the bottom’, former butler tells court

David Allan, who served as Alan Jones's butler for nearly two decades, recounted his experiences with the radio host during a criminal trial. The 79-year-old former butler testified in the NSW Local Court that Jones would often greet high-profile athletes with a hug and a slap on the bottom during multiple visits to his luxury Circular Quay apartment.

Jones has pleaded not guilty to 21 charges, including allegations of indecent assault and sexual touching against five male complainants. Allan, a butler trained in the United Kingdom, described Jones's apartment as a place where famous individuals, including numerous sports stars, would frequently gather for social events. When questioned about how Jones typically welcomed athletes, Allan stated that it involved a hug and a slap on the bottom, acknowledging that such behavior was common among sportsmen.

Despite being asked to provide specific names of guests, Allan admitted to having difficulty recalling many of the young male athletes he hosted, who were typically in their early twenties. Allan's role encompassed various tasks, including designing Jones's clothing, purchasing fabrics for his suits, managing household chores, and preparing meals for guests.

He began his employment in 2001 by making sandwiches and eventually assumed more hosting responsibilities, hosting guests for lunch, dinner, and Sunday roasts. Allan acknowledged that Jones's work schedule was "extraordinarily brutal."
