78-80 – Semien shot sinks Rangers in 7-2 loss to Mets

Avalon, Texas - September 22: In a game between the New York Mets and the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, the Mets emerged victorious with a score of 7-2. The Rangers scored two runs, but the Mets scored seven times. With their season hanging in the balance, Texas failed to score their first run until the first batter of the fifth inning, trailing 2-0 by then.

After working a rally against Mets starter Nolan McLean, the Rangers managed to tie the game with a bases-loaded, one-out scenario, but only managed to score one more run. The Rangers did not score another run against McLean or any other Mets pitcher until there was one out in the ninth. In the seventh inning, as the Mets threatened with two on and the game tied, Skip Schumaker called in closer Jacob Latz earlier than usual.

Latz remained in for the eighth inning, allowing a solo home run to former Ranger World Series winner Marcus Semien, sealing the victory for the Mets. The Rangers, now facing elimination, dropped the series to the Mets, their first home series loss in over two months.
