$11.5M from Sturgeon Lake trust helped fund Rath firm’s Tallcree payment: receiver

A court-appointed receiver revealed that Alberta separatist leader Jeffrey Rath's firm moved $11.5 million from a First Nation trust controlled by the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation to help pay a court-ordered sum to another First Nation client, the Tallcree First Nation. On January 23, 2024, two cheques totaling $11.5 million were issued from the trust's bank accounts to RathPC.

The firm then transferred the funds to another account and combined them with other money. Within a week, RathPC paid $8.5 million into a court, as part of a settlement in a case concerning the nation's claim over the funds. The firm was later ordered to repay $8.5 million to Tallcree, but RathPC converted the money into bullion and precious metals, transferring $11.4 million between November 2025 and March 2026.

The receiver warned that Rath's lack of cooperation has hindered the investigation, preventing the disclosure of where the physical gold and silver are located. The legal dispute between Sturgeon Lake and Tallcree First Nations continues, with both nations suing Rath and his firm for improperly withdrawing tens of millions of dollars from their trusts.
