On Tuesday, September 22nd, Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky convened in New York to discuss the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Zelensky, ahead of his upcoming address to the UN General Assembly, expressed his desire for the war to conclude before the onset of winter. He highlighted the deteriorating living conditions faced by civilians in Ukraine and the escalating risk of further fatalities on the frontlines as the conflict persists.

Trump, on the other hand, indicated that Ukraine and Russia had reached a mutual agreement to refrain from targeting each other's energy infrastructure. However, this was in contrast to Trump's earlier criticism of Kyiv for attacking Russian oil refineries.

According to France 24 correspondent Gulliver Cragg in Ukraine, another potential avenue for a temporary ceasefire could be the Black Sea, where attacks have disrupted the crucial grain shipments for both Ukraine and Russia. While Ukraine has expressed willingness to cooperate, Zelensky has expressed doubt about Russia's willingness to do the same.

Analysts suggest that the mounting Ukrainian pressure on Russian oil infrastructure could potentially pave the way for a limited ceasefire. However, the level of Trump's advocacy for such an agreement remains unclear, as does the desired timing for its implementation.
