Winter criticizes Katz's Gaza statements, calls for action over empty threats

People of Israel head Ofer Winter criticized Defense Minister Israel Katz's recent statements regarding Gaza, accusing him of making empty threats. Katz had previously stated that if Hamas captured an Israeli hostage, the remains of Gaza City would be destroyed, and around one million Gazans would be forced to evacuate. Winter argued that Katz's threats were failing to address the real issue at hand.

He claimed that rather than taking meaningful action, officials were simply making empty threats, such as evacuating Gaza if anyone were to be abducted. Winter pointed out that despite 251 people being abducted since October 7, nothing had happened due to these threats. Winter emphasized that three years after the October 7 attack, Israel is still on high alert for kidnappings and continues to threaten a response to every Hamas action.

He urged a change in policy from a reactive approach to one that takes the initiative and aims for a decisive outcome. Winter concluded by stating that People of Israel would be strong in the upcoming elections to ensure that similar events do not occur again.
