Will Antonelli leave Baku with one hand on F1 title?

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix, taking place this weekend, holds significant importance in the Formula 1 championship battle. This race, scheduled for Saturday due to Azerbaijan's Remembrance Day on Sunday, features a triple-header format, with practice sessions on Thursday and Friday, and qualifying on Friday as well.

As of now, Kimi Antonelli, the 20-year-old Italian driver, leads the championship by 81 points over his Mercedes teammate George Russell, after securing eight victories this year. Antonelli aims to clinch his third straight victory on the challenging street circuit with a history of creating chaos. However, recent results, while encouraging, do not assure a title win, as Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff cautions.

Wolff emphasizes the need for humility, basic execution, and reliability during the weekend, given the high-stakes nature of the race. He acknowledges that several teams are capable of challenging Mercedes at the front, and that the demanding period ahead will test the team's preparation, reliability, and operational execution.

The high-speed Baku circuit is known for its unpredictability, and upcoming races in Malaysia and Singapore will further strain the teams' resources. While Mercedes aims to maintain their pace, McLaren, Ferrari, and Red Bull are likely to be confident. Ferrari's Charles Leclerc has a strong qualifying record in Azerbaijan but has never won the race, while his team-mate Lewis Hamilton has already ruled himself out of contention.

Max Verstappen, seeking his third Baku triumph for Red Bull, and Oscar Piastri of McLaren, his second, will also be in contention.
