Why FG must stop ongoing varsity admission – School proprietors

The Owners of Private Schools Association of Nigeria (OPSAN) has urged the Federal Government to halt the admission process for the 2026/2027 academic session until all O'Level results are released. This call comes after a meeting with stakeholders where OPSAN National President, Prof. Uzochukwu Nwanonyuo, highlighted the unfairness of JAMB commencing admissions based solely on WAEC results while many other results are still pending.

He noted that a large percentage of 2025/2026 WAEC results are yet to be released in various public, mission and private secondary schools. Furthermore, he highlighted the delay in result releases by NECO and NABTEB, which are crucial for students who depend on these examinations for admission into higher institutions. OPSAN emphasized that continuing admissions without all O'Level results automatically excludes many students, creating an unfair advantage for those who have already received their results.

The association appealed to the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Alausa, to intervene and direct JAMB to put all admission processes on hold until all O'Level results are released. They also urged the National Universities Commission (NUC) to instruct universities across the country to suspend Post-UTME admissions until all results are out.

OPSAN described the current situation as a national disaster and criticized the preference given to WAEC over NECO and NABTEB, arguing that this weakens national institutions and sends a wrong signal about their relevance.
