Why committee wants powers to oversight Parliamentary Service Commission

The Parliamentary Select Committee on Sanitation and Water Resources inspected the Integrated Recycling & Compost Plant Limited in Yabram, situated near Dambai in Ghana's Oti Region. This visit was part of the Committee's efforts to assess sanitation and waste management facilities, as they evaluate ways to enhance waste handling and recycling across the nation.

Committee Chairman John Oti Bless emphasized the need for greater support for recycling initiatives and sustainable waste management practices. He stressed the importance of collaboration between government agencies, local authorities, and other stakeholders to tackle Ghana's sanitation issues. Mr. Oti Bless also urged Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to enforce sanitation by-laws more rigorously, stating that enforcement must go hand-in-hand with investments in waste management infrastructure to achieve lasting improvements in sanitation.

The Committee expressed satisfaction with the progress at the Yabram facility and recognized the significance of recycling and composting in reducing the amount of waste going to landfill sites. They stressed that ongoing collaboration among government entities, MMDAs, private-sector operators, and communities would be crucial to improving sanitation outcomes nationwide.
