White House denies report US is considering a diesel export ban

On September 23, a White House official refuted a report from Politico claiming that the United States was contemplating a 90-day ban on diesel fuel exports to curb soaring prices. The White House categorically denied the existence of such a plan, emphasizing that discussions are focused on finding the most effective means to increase domestic supply of diesel, while simultaneously maintaining the flow of gasoline and jet fuel.

The current record-high diesel prices, exceeding $6.50 per gallon, are attributed to the geopolitical tensions in Iran and Ukraine disrupting oil and fuel deliveries. Energy Secretary Chris Wright had previously dismissed the feasibility of a ban, warning it could potentially hike gasoline and jet fuel prices, and suggested exploring voluntary approaches instead.
