We got more than 15% – Ntim Fordjour confirms support for Parliament recall over cocaine scandal

Rev. Ntim Fordjour, the Ranking Member of Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, has confirmed that the Minority has obtained more than the necessary 15% support to initiate a parliamentary recall over Ghana’s escalating cocaine issue. Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express, Fordjour stated that the signatures, petition, and memorandum had already been delivered to the Speaker of Parliament.

"Yes, we got that and beyond, and we got more than 15%," he affirmed. The Minority submitted the documents last week, and the Speaker has acknowledged receipt, Fordjour added. The Minority now anticipates Speaker Alban Bagbin issuing a notice to recall Parliament for an emergency session within the week, expecting it to occur the following week.

The Minority's concerns stem from a series of major narcotics seizures, valued at over US$1 billion in less than two years, including the seizure of over 3.3 tonnes of cocaine in March 2025 and a recent seizure of nearly 3.9 tonnes of cocaine at France’s Port of Dunkirk. Fordjour emphasized the need for a bipartisan inquiry to establish the facts and called for decisive action from President Mahama upon his return from the UNGA.

He urged MPs to approach the matter without partisan considerations, prioritizing Ghana's interests over political considerations. Fordjour also warned of the severe security implications of drug trafficking, linking the trade to money laundering and terrorism.
