Vietnam's largest island Phu Quoc plans parking for nearly 90 aircraft ahead of APEC 2027

Vietnam's largest island, Phu Quoc, has proposed building parking spaces for nearly 90 aircraft to prepare for the upcoming APEC summit in 2027. The proposal, submitted to the Ministry of Construction, outlines a master plan for the airport from 2021 to 2030, with plans extending to 2050. Key elements of the plan include constructing a parallel taxiway system, a new connecting taxiway, and aprons in front of Terminal 2, as well as expanding the existing apron to accommodate about 42 aircraft.

Additionally, an apron with around 45 positions would be built between the aprons for Terminal 1 and the VIP/general aviation terminal, with land west of the latter reserved for future expansion. To ensure smooth operations during the APEC summit, several infrastructure components would be adjusted for immediate construction, including realigning and extending service roads, changing the locations of power supply and lighting substations, and reconfiguring the internal road system.

The plan also includes relocating the aviation catering facility and fuel supply facility to different areas of the airport, as well as moving repair and maintenance facilities west of Terminal 1. By 2050, the plan would allow for further expansion of the aircraft apron as demand increases. The CAAV has requested approval of the revised airport master plan from the Ministry of Construction and recommended that An Giang Province incorporate it into its land-use and public transport plans. Phu Quoc, an island of approximately 574 square kilometers, is Vietnam's largest.
