Vietnam top leader receives acting US Navy secretary in New York

Vietnam's top leader praised U.S. acting Navy Secretary Hung Cao during a meeting in New York. The Vietnamese leader expressed delight at reuniting with Cao and commended his nomination by President Donald Trump for the Secretary of the Navy position. He lauded Cao's role in strengthening Vietnam-U.S. relations and his deep affection for Vietnam.

The Vietnamese leader highlighted Vietnam's key development priorities, emphasizing science and technology as central to national progress. He stressed the importance of harnessing domestic and international resources, along with knowledge, technology, management expertise, and skilled human resources, to fuel growth.

Vietnam views the U.S. as a crucial strategic partner, aiming for a stable, substantive, effective, and sustainable Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Party General Secretary and President To Lam affirmed the significance of economic and trade ties, hoping to achieve balanced, stable, and sustainable trade. He expressed optimism about signing a reciprocal trade agreement, boosting business prospects for both nations.

The Vietnamese leader commended the handover of artifacts from the former U.S. Marine Corps Camp Reasoner in Da Nang, describing it as a gesture of goodwill and humanitarianism that fosters peace, healing, and reconciliation. He noted the growing success of Vietnamese communities in the U.S. and abroad, contributing positively to their host countries.

Hung Cao accepted the trust placed in him by President Trump, pledging to bolster Vietnam-U.S. defense relations to the benefit of peace, stability, and development in the Asia-Pacific region. He emphasized the substantial cooperation potential in sectors like economy, trade, science and technology, and defense and security. Cao pledged to further advance Vietnam-U.S. relations at various levels, focusing on defense cooperation, maritime security, capacity building, humanitarian assistance, disaster response, and tackling regional challenges together.

Both leaders agreed that building on existing achievements, they should continue implementing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, fostering mutual understanding, trust, and expanding mutually beneficial cooperation. This collaboration would contribute to regional and global peace, stability, cooperation, and development.
