Vancouver police say $5.8M of cocaine found in t-shirt order is record bust

Vancouver police announced Tuesday that the city's largest cocaine seizure in its history has been discovered by employees of a legitimate company. The massive haul, weighing 328.55 kilograms and valued at approximately $5.8 million, was hidden among boxes of t-shirts ordered by a Vancouver-based business. The employees found the drugs and promptly alerted the police, who arrived on July 21.

Sgt. Travis Fraser explained that the company was utterly shocked by the discovery and emphasized that they are completely innocent and have no connection to the seized cocaine.

The police statement highlights that the scheme appears to be organized crime, as indicated by the stamps and packaging found with the drugs. The entire operation is believed to have originated from a shipping container that left Honduras on May 18. The container was loaded onto a vessel and stopped in Jamaica on June 6 before arriving in Montreal on July 5. The police conjecture that the cocaine was intended to be removed before its arrival at the company.

The ongoing investigation is being conducted in collaboration with authorities in Canada, Honduras, Jamaica, and the United States.
