(URGENT) Choo Ga-eun captures Asian Games gold in pistol shooting

NAGOYA, Japan — In a historic moment for South Korea at the Asian Games, Choo Ga-eun clinched the gold medal in the women's 10-meter air pistol shooting event, marking her country's first gold of the competition. The talented shooter shattered the previous Asian record with a remarkable score of 246.3 points, setting a new benchmark for her sport. This historic achievement came during Choo's debut at the Aichi Prefectural General Shooting Gallery in Toyota, located about 25 kilometers east of Nagoya.

Choo Ga-eun's impressive feat was followed closely by her Chinese counterpart, Shen Yijao, who secured the silver medal with a score of 241.3 points. Jiang Ranxin of China claimed the bronze with 221.6 points. The previous Asian record stood at 245.3 points, previously set by Yukari Konishi of Japan in December 2017. Choo's score also eclipsed the previous Asian Games competition record of 242.1 points, set by Palak Gulia in 2023.

Earlier in the day, Choo Ga-eun demonstrated her exceptional skills by setting an Asian Games competition record in the qualification round, scoring an outstanding 582 points. Her remarkable performance helped South Korea secure a silver medal in the team event, where medals are awarded based on the combined scores of three shooters from each country. In the final demonstration, Choo came within 0.7 points of breaking the world record, further underscoring her exceptional talent in the sport.
