Two schoolgirls injured after being hit by motorcycle in Permatang Pauh

In the early hours of the morning, a motorcycle struck two schoolgirls crossing a pedestrian crossing in front of their school in Permatang Pauh. The unfortunate incident, which occurred around 7:20am, left the eight-year-old and nine-year-old pupils with minor injuries. The Seberang Prai Tengah district police chief, Assistant Commissioner Nik Aminuddin Raja Abdullah, reported that a 30-second video of the accident had been shared on social media platforms.

Upon preliminary investigations, it was determined that the girls were crossing the pedestrian crossing legally when the motorcycle, driven by an unidentified person, struck them. Both children received treatment for their minor injuries. The police are currently working to identify the motorcyclist and ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident. This case falls under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The police have appealed for any information regarding the incident to be reported to the nearest police station or to Inspector Hafizi Mansor, who can be reached at 017-566 0103. Assistant Commissioner Nik Aminuddin emphasized the importance of motorists adhering to traffic regulations, driving at reduced speeds, and yielding to pedestrians, especially near schools and pedestrian crossings.
