‘Turkiye, Qatar share a common vision for peace, justice and regional stability’

Turkish ambassador to Qatar, Yakup Caymazoglu, highlighted the shared vision of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, Amir of Qatar, at the 81st UN General Assembly session. The leaders expressed strong agreement on regional and global issues, emphasizing justice, dialogue, diplomacy, and respect for international law.

They both condemned the Gaza crisis, with Erdogan describing it as "the world's largest children's cemetery" and the Amir labeling it a "genocide" and "a stain of shame on humanity." Both countries called for international responsibility to protect Palestinians, establish a ceasefire, and achieve lasting peace based on the 1967 borders.

Caymazoglu noted that both leaders recognized the UN's struggle to handle conflicts and humanitarian crises, with Erdogan advocating for the reform of the Security Council. The Amir reaffirmed Qatar's commitment to the UN and the importance of international law. Regarding regional security, both leaders stressed the need for a regional system of collective security and emphasized the importance of preserving freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.

Diplomacy and mediation were identified as central to Türkiye and Qatar's foreign policies, with both countries actively involved in mediating regional crises, including in Gaza, Sudan, and Yemen.
