U.S. President Donald Trump and Venezuela's President Delcy Rodríguez have held an informal bilateral meeting in New York, outside of the UN General Assembly, marking their first encounter since the capture of Nicolás Maduro in January. The gathering also included U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, and National Security Adviser Stephen Miller, according to the White House.

This unscripted meeting between Trump and Rodríguez took place at a New York hotel, coinciding with Rodríguez's first trip to the United States since assuming office, just days after Maduro's transfer to America awaiting trial for alleged drug trafficking. While Rodríguez attends the UN General Assembly in Caracas, the stage for global diplomacy, around a hundred Venezuelan opposition members have gathered in front of the UN headquarters in Caracas to protest her presence at the UN General Assembly and demand the call for presidential elections in Venezuela.
