Trump to meet China’s Xi as Congress mulls bill banning artificial superintelligence – US politics live

As Congress debates introducing legislation aimed at curbing artificial superintelligence, President Donald Trump meets with Chinese President Xi Jinping. Despite numerous warnings from prominent AI leaders about the potential for catastrophic risks, the US Congress has thus far remained largely silent on the issue.

The Trump administration has also taken a firm stance on several other matters. They have refused to cooperate with the recently appointed deputy head of the United Nations Refugee Agency, Tressa Rae Finerty. Finerty, an American, has taken a leave of absence while seeking a waiver from the US government that would permit her to fulfill her duties.

At the UN General Assembly, Trump reiterated his threat to "annihilate" Iran and "drive them into Hell" if the regime does not agree to a deal. He also claimed to be "working closely with the leaders of Russia and Ukraine" to bring an end to the ongoing conflict, defended his administration's actions in Latin America, and accused Mexico of being effectively controlled by drug cartels.

Trump also expressed concerns about US-Mexico border security and regime change in Cuba, stating that he would reject any calls for a "globalist scheme" to control artificial intelligence.
