Thousands defect to PDP in Akpabuyo as governorship candidate consults constituents

Over 1,000 residents of Akpabuyo Local Government Area in Cross River State have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the party's governorship candidate, Sir Arthur Jarvis Archibong, visited his home region to consult with traditional leaders, politicians and locals. Most of the defectors were previously members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

At the consultation, Archibong hailed this as the highest number of individuals to join the PDP since his tour began, stating that the people's choice demonstrated their trust in the party, and promised to treat their support seriously. He said the people of Akpabuyo and Cross River State have been yearning for efficient governance, and his decision to pursue the governorship seat was motivated by a resolve to save the state.

Archibong expressed gratitude to the people for showing their preference for effective leadership by returning to the PDP. Traditional rulers, political figures and other stakeholders in Akpabuyo, who spoke during the visit, commended Archibong's move to consult his community, emphasizing the significance of seeking their backing.

A defector and PDP chieftain in the area, Ene Effiom Akabom, noted Archibong's contributions to community development. He stated that Archibong was a fellow local, and his positive impact on the community was one of the reasons they collectively decided to join him in the PDP. They pledged their allegiance, proclaiming that "Akpabuyo is PDP and PDP is Akpabuyo."
