Thai imam’s wife finds paint splashed on car after prayers in Tumpat, Kelantan police on the case

Kota Bharu, September 23 — Police have received a report of an act of vandalism against a car belonging to the wife of a Thai imam in Tumpat, Kelantan, on Monday night. The incident occurred at the Kok Majid Jetty area, where the imam, aged 30, parked his white Honda City around 7:10 PM before attending Isyak prayers at Masjid Pulau Beluru.

Upon returning to his vehicle at approximately 9:36 PM, the imam's wife found paint marks splashed on the car. In a statement released yesterday, Tumpat police chief ACP Mohd Khairi Shafie confirmed the details of the case. The imam had previously received a screenshot from a friend, alleging that he had been threatened for giving information to authorities about undocumented migrant smuggling in the Tumpat islands. However, the imam denied these allegations.

The police are currently investigating the incident under Section 427 of the Penal Code, which pertains to mischief or criminal damage. They are also examining if there is any connection between the alleged threats and the act of vandalism.
