Tension Between Cardinals, WR Marvin Harrison Jr Could Lead to Major Trade

The pressure mounted for Marvin Harrison Jr. to rebound this season. After posting just 608 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 41 catches last year, the fourth overall pick's numbers are unpalatable for a player drafted to be an NFL superstar wideout. At the halfway point of the current season, he has been even more disappointing, catching only one pass for 33 yards on four targets.

In Week 2 against the Seattle Seahawks, he received just one target as the Arizona Cardinals lagged behind. Harrison has appeared sluggish and out of step, raising doubts about his effort on the field. Consequently, NFL executives are closely monitoring the Cardinals to determine if Harrison could be a trade candidate. Harrison was once a college superstar, earning unanimous All-American honors in his final two seasons at Ohio State, racking up over 1,200 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns each year.

In 2023, he amassed 1,211 yards and 14 touchdowns on 67 catches, averaging 18.1 yards per catch. Despite his promising college career, Harrison has failed to live up to expectations in his second NFL season with the Cardinals. While Wilson, a 2023 third-round pick, has emerged as a breakout receiver, Harrison's struggles seem to confirm that he is not the generational talent initially projected.

A trade appears to be the most logical course of action for the Arizona Cardinals, as he is not contributing to their offense and still possesses value due to his draft status and college production. Although he has shown flashes of talent as a rookie, with 62 catches for 885 yards and eight touchdowns, several teams might find more value in acquiring Harrison.

Potential suitors include the San Francisco 49ers, Houston Texans, and New England Patriots, all of which could benefit from his depth at the position.
