Temperatures across Egypt to drop following humidity as Autumn begins

The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) issued a forecast predicting cooler temperatures across Egypt as autumn begins, set to commence on Wednesday. Unstable weather patterns and chances of rainfall were expected to affect several northern regions, spanning from the Mediterranean coast to parts of the Nile Delta. Despite persistently humid and hot conditions, cold air currents from the upper atmosphere would interact with warm, humid air, creating a short-lived period of instability.

The atmosphere would remain humid due to the formation of rain-bearing clouds over the region, amplifying the perceived heat. Once this transient weather system moved through, temperatures were forecasted to noticeably decrease, beginning on Friday and continuing into Saturday.

Rainfall was expected to be sporadic, with scattered thunderstorms anticipated to develop early Thursday morning along the northwestern coast, from Matrouh to Alexandria. By the afternoon and late afternoon, convective thunderclouds would build, extending to the Delta governorates such as Beheira, Monufiya, Sharqiya, Gharbiya, and Daqahliya, as well as Kafr El-Sheikh, Damietta, and Port Said. Rainfall in these areas would be scattered.

EMA Director-General of the Forecasting and Early Warning Center, Mahmoud Shaheen, stated that the 2026 autumn season is anticipated to feature potential weather fluctuations, given the rapid shifts in atmospheric pressure patterns and distributions. Light to moderate rainfall was predicted, with thunderclouds potentially forming over scattered areas of the northwestern coast and the Nile Delta, with some rain possibly reaching Greater Cairo.

The EMA also noted that seasonal forecasts suggest rainfall amounts and temperatures during this autumn may be slightly above the long-term average climatic norms.
