Strengthening community ties through outreach in Desa Mentari

In Desa Mentari, a community in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia came together to celebrate Malaysia Day, marking more than just the end of Sunway Group's month-long #SunwayforGood Food Programme. This event showcased the ongoing partnership between Sunway and the community, which aims to address the challenges faced by the urban poor and support their long-term development.

The highlight of the celebration was the distribution of burgers by Tengku Zatashah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, a member of the Selangor royal family, alongside Sunway Group President Datuk Mohd Anuar Taib. This was part of a nationwide initiative that reached over 13,000 Malaysians through five food-based programmes.

One of these programmes, Burger Rumah Sahabat, emerged from Sunway's collaboration with Selangor Youth Community (SAY). This initiative not only provided training in burger-making and entrepreneurship to the residents of Rumah Sahabat, but also led to Sunway becoming one of the first corporate customers, placing an order for 5,000 burgers.

This event went beyond mere distribution of food and represented a deeper connection between communities. It highlighted how empowerment through benefit can enable communities to support one another in progressing together. Anuar emphasized this point, stating that the true impact of this programme extends beyond numbers, as it is seen in Malaysians from all walks of life coming together to help one another.

Sunway Group's Chief Brand Strategy Officer, Nik Tasha Nik Kamaruddin, highlighted that the #SunwayforGood platform is about bringing Malaysians together to support communities in need. From Rumah Sahabat to Desa Mentari, this year's programme demonstrated how nationwide collective action can create meaningful impact, building upon Sunway's belief in 'Doing Well by Doing Good'.
