Socso expands enforcement under Op Kesan 2.0 to informal sector

The Social Security Organisation (Socso) has expanded enforcement efforts under Operation Kesan 2.0 to cover the informal sector, focusing on three key sectors classified as mandatory for contributions under existing legal frameworks. Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Operations) Azirruan Arifin revealed that the nationwide operation, involving over 300 personnel across 54 Socso offices, targets employers, platform providers, and self-employed individuals.

The initiative aims to strengthen compliance with social security protection laws, including the Self-Employment Social Security Scheme (LINDUNG Kendiri) under Act 789, and to ensure proper registration and contributions for gig workers. As of now, 1.17 million gig workers have registered with Socso. Enforcement actions will commence on October 1 to ensure compliance and protection for workers.

Socso remains committed to providing social security protection to all groups and will continue enforcement under existing Acts, such as LINDUNG Pekerja and LINDUNG Kerjaya, to prevent any group from being left without protection. Employers found in violation of the law may face warnings, reprimands, and fines. The operation targeted areas like Pasar Seni, Brickfields, Pudu, and Bandar Baru Ampang in the Klang Valley.

Socso had previously implemented Compliance Month, resulting in 6,586 employers and 281,930 new workers being registered, with 396 new employers applying for remission of Late Payment Contribution Interest (FCLB) on arrears.
